Quote Of The Week - Week 9
“As humans we posses a powerful quality: we are able to find some kind of pleasure and happiness in almost everything. We are able to adapt to and accept our circumstances”.
Bella Trost, world champion bikini model & BWG founder, on finding joy
This quote is from the article “What are you working on?” (click here to read it) about the small things that enable us to find joy, happiness and meaning in everyday life.
The thought was inspired by Imre Kertesz, Hungarian author and recipient of the 2002 Nobel Prize in Literature. His novel, Fateless or Fatelessness, is a masterpiece and one of the greatest books I’ve ever read.
It is the semi-autobiographical story of a 14-year old Hungarian Jew in the concentration camps. If that boy could find some kind of beauty and happiness in the brutal, horrifying and barbaric experience of those camps, I believe there is beauty and happiness in almost everything in this life.
Fatelessness quotes:
“Despite all deliberation, sense, insight, and sober reason, I could not fail to recognize within myself the furtive and yet – ashamed as it might, so to say, of its irrationality – increasingly of sorts: I would like to live a little bit longer in this beautiful concentration camp”
“The confines of prison walls cannot impose boundaries on the flights of one’s fantasy”.
“It was not very likely, of course, but then all kind of things are possible, after all”.
