Interview Of The Week with Max Ryan: A British actor in Hollywood
Do you remember the Danish architect, Rikard, from Sex and the City 2? You know... he was the perfect match for Samantha… (in the bedroom). Max Ryan melted women’s hearts all over the world with the sexy role when the movie came out in 2010. 10 years later BWG interviews the British actor about his life, his career and his projects. This is a very special Christmas issue. Please welcome Mr Max Ryan!
“On a movie set you can create some magical moments and it’s a great unique feeling”.
You've acted in Hollywood movies with some of the biggest stars. How did this amazing career start?
I was lucky to find success in TV commercials which gradually led me to feature films. I had martial arts experience so I got an audition for my first feature film "Kiss of the Dragon" starring Jet Li & Bridget Fonda, released by 20th Century Fox. I landed the role and had a great experience so I continued on that path and kept auditioning. I won and I lost, but I was growing and moving forward . I never saw not winning a role as bad. I just felt it belonged to someone else that needed the job more than me, and evidently I wasn’t right for the part. Of course it’s a competitive world so you have to roll with the punches.
So what does it take to make it as an actor?
Patience, focus and a second source of income to get you through the dry patches. If it’s in your heart, do it, but you have to be prepared and determined. You have to keep going and be patient! Believe in yourself.
Once you make it, what is it like to be an actor in Hollywood?
Pre-Covid was great; always something happening - castings, meetings etc. During Covid everyone in the industry is feeling kind of beat. It is tough and with all the restaurant closures a lot of aspiring actors have no income. They need those jobs to keep them afloat and motivated.
Who or what inspires you?
I learned so much from both my father and my mother. My inspiration in life is my passion for growing as a person and as a businessman. I’m excited about the next chapter of my life. There’s also been massive heartbreak. I lost my brother in November 2019 and my father in 2009. I've had to believe in myself and find the strength to carry on. Sometimes the greatest inspiration comes from our inner thought process.
What are you working on currently?
I start filming a rom-com in early 2021. I t's a pretty funny script... I don’t think I’m funny but people seem to laugh at me... or at my humor. I have other projects in the works such as a TV series and a feature film that I wrote with my writing partner and good friend Julio Ponce Palmieri. COVID has stalled us substantially but we will pick up in 2021. As for my entrepreneurial side, and apart from the entertainment business, my mother Lynette and I started an e-commerce business called Serum X-Y Chromosome. It's our trademarked brand of groundbreaking AntiAge cosmetics (www.serumxychromosome.com). The technology and ingredients are extremely expensive, powerful and all natural. Our scientifically formulated products are able to reach the endoderm which is the third deepest layer of the skin. They do this naturally, unlike most luxury brands that require toxins to perform at this level, which can be more damaging then helpful. We are currently shipping worldwide and expanding our client base every day.
Any other plans?
I just want to be as happy as I can, to find true love and start a family.
Last but not least, what is your message to the world at the end of this challenging year?
Try to understand and respect each other’s perspectives. Remain calm and take constructive criticism gratefully.
Thank you for reading. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year... ❤️
